Delta Delta Delta Fraternity
Delta Delta Delta was founded at Boston University, Thanksgiving Eve of 1888 by Sarah Ida Shaw, Eleanor Dorcas Pond, Isabel Morgan Breed, and Florence Isabelle Stewart. By its first birthday, there were three chapters in three states. In 1891, Delta Delta Delta and six other women's fraternities participated in the first Panhellenic Meeting. The Executive Office is located in Arlington, Texas, and supports the growing number of collegiate and alumnae chapters.
History of Alumnae Chapters
In 1892, the alumnae of Delta Delta Delta formed as association called the "Alpha Alliance of Delta Delta Delta." The purpose of this association was to unite the alumnae from Alpha Chapter at Boston University (to perpetuate) their interest in Delta Delta Delta, and in Alpha Chapter in particular.
The first Convention in 1893 authorized the "alumnae degree," now known as the Circle Degree. Each year, thousands of Tri Delta collegians become alumnae and continue their journey of lifetime membership in Tri Delta. Now, living Tri Delta alumnae number more than 145,000, and Tri Delta has more than 350 active alumnae chapters across the United States and Canada.
Each year, Alliance Day is celebrated on August 29 to commemorate the founding of the first alumnae chapter.
